This recess week came at a good time I guess. Well, not quite, since they literally ate our CNY holidays when we were supposed to get a full week of recess week, but it's nonetheless a welcome break from everything. I got a little dissatisfied with what my life and myself not too long ago. Academically, I couldn't keep up (and still haven't caught up, as a matter of fact). For soccer, I did not manage to get into the first team for IHG. I was unhappy that I've not been able to get any cash sponsorship for Freshmen Orientation 2010. My busy schedule and the fact that everyone had rather different timetables (since we had one less core module this semester) meant that I saw much lesser of the Pharmily as I would've liked, and as a result I felt somewhat distanced from the rest of them. It was great seeing Ashvin and Zuo Yi again in the December break, but now they're back in the states I miss the soccer and Macau Cafe sessions again! And I still miss someone in Bristol ):

But I guess I got over it. I've decided that I will continue to train hard, especially in terms of ball control and first touch, while also building up my physical strength and improving my speed further. That being said, I still didn't like sitting on the sidelines and watching my teammates play, but I cheered for them wholeheartedly nonetheless and I'm proud that we progressed past the group stage for the first time in, what, four years?

We were arguably the worst team in the Inter Hall Games in terms of overall player quality, but we made up for that with determination and teamwork, keeping the scoreline to a respectable 3-1 loss against Eusoff (who used to wallop us in previous years with cricket-like scores), and battling to a 1-1 draw against Sheares. Sheares proceeded to lose to Eusoff by the exact same scoreline, and we had to go through a penalty shootout to decide who would progress. We won the shootout 2-0, and played the semis against Kent Ridge. We started off brightly, getting a few good opportunities and testing their goalkeeper on several occasions. Alas, we could not get the crucial goal in, and our opponents grew from strength to strength, spraying the ball about and stretching us left and right. Lucky breaks and lapses in keeping a compact defence led to an eventual 3-0 loss, but we did ourselves proud with our combative display in my opinion.

As for my concerns over my school work, they've diminished a little I guess. While I am far from panicking, these concerns are genuinely troubling me. Let's hope I'll be able to make up for my lack of academic efforts in this coming break just after CNY.

Anyway. Seems like quite a few of my classmates have left or will be leaving us to pursue their dreams in studying Medicine. Suyi, to whom I barely speak nowadays, will be going to Australia, while Kuding left on Friday for Malaysia. Zhi Xue will also be leaving, albeit only in September, to study Medicine in the UK. I was talking to my sister about this and once again she tells me that it seems like a waste for me to not try for Medicine back then. To be honest I'm still not sure that my choice is the best, but I have my reasons and my motivations, and I'm determined to succeed now that I have chosen my path. On this note, I wish you guys (and girl) all the best in your chosen paths (:

Speaking of Kuding leaving, we had a farewell party for him on Tuesday. About thirty of us squeezed into a corner of Marche in 313 Somerset. We presented his present to him in a funeral procession way, together with weeping calefare actors at the side. All the best ding!

Rushed back to school afterwards for Block supper. While it was great that many people turned up, people still largely remained in their own little cliques while most were just standing around rather than mingling with the others. I guess it takes time for everyone to get to know one another (:

We (i.e. the Block Comm people) sat around and ate the remaining pizzas after that. It was nice to relax for a bit, and chat with one another. We had fun teasing Su Yee about her Chinese (or lack of it hahaha), and also had fun asking random passers-by to help us finish the remaining pizza. By the way, I love unagi. I like pizza. But somehow unagi pizza annoys my taste buds D:
