It's been a hectic start to the month... August first kicked off with Freshmen Orientation Week on the 3rd, but apart from flagging on the 4th day and some talks in the afternoon on the 3rd, we dancers did not participate in any of the FOW events, instead devoting our time to dance practices. While I'm that tiny little weeny bit bothered by the fact that we did not get to meet any new people, I think it was worth it in the end for we put up what felt like an awesome performance. Like Weiting said, when you do well you can feel it =p

Of course there's always room for improvement... the video isn't up yet but apparently the fight scene did get a little messy based on some comments I've heard, but yeah that's not gonna dampen our moods (:

Anyway, flagging was fun. The last time I did flag day must have been half a decade away at least... I can't even recall when I last did flagging. Even my last attempt at Scouts' Job Week was back in 2005, thought that was a different experience somewhat. Anyway, my group (of five) were assigned to the Outram/Chinatown/Clarke Quay area, and we started at Outram but found NUS flaggers like every 20 metres or so, and so we ended up walking past Outram, down Chinatown, until we decided there was no point walking any more. Accepting the fact that the NUS flaggers were going to be found everywhere, we "stood our ground" and spread out and started flagging. Yong Sheng and I "camped" at the overhead bridge linking Chinatown Point and the building opposite it, and we did a decent job despite the proximity of other flaggers. Some interesting experiences? People who made eye contact with you, walked towards you, fished for something in their pockets... only to take out Strepsils to eat instead of coins to make a donation... people who asked about our flag day, the beneficiaries, only to walk away without making any donations after their enquiries... Not all experiences were negative though. There was a kind woman who was all smiles and made a ten-dollar donation, there was a man who made donations on four occasions, even insisting on his wife to donate on his behalf when he ran out of coins. There were some people who offered words of encouragement. There were plenty who were glad to stop and use one minute of their time to dig out coins even though they were carrying plenty of stuff and it was cumbersome for their to fish for loose change.

Rag day itself was on the 8th. We barely slept that night, since we had to get up by 3 to start our preparations and put on our costumes and makeup. By 6 we got a quick run on the actual stage, though we chose to mark our positionings instead of going for a full rehearsal, which was a better idea actually. The waiting felt like eons, and boy were there nerves =p

In any case, our turn came, and somehow the five or six minutes we were on stage felt like seconds. As soon as we came on the performance was over. I guess I'll let the video do the talking for me, as soon as it's uploaded!

That evening, I went to Grand Copthorne Hotel, where Weiquan had booked two co-joined rooms for us to stay. We had an awesome buffet dinner (gosh I love food), stuffing ourselves full with seafood, delicious dessert (mmm chocolate fondue) and even durians before we celebrated Weiquan's birthday (belatedly, since it was a week ago). We went back to our rooms after that and watched Resident Evil 2 on the TV, played on the Playstation 2, and played card games, but I guessed I missed quite a bit since I fell asleep rather early. The next morning, we woke late, missed the buffet breakfast, and went for lunch at Tiong Bahru, where almost all stalls were closed for some reason. After having chicken rice and sharing a pizza, we went back to the hotel and played some more Winning Eleven, SNK vs. Capcom and Fifa Street.

Went over to Zuo Yi's place in the evening, where he had prepared a sumptuous dinner for us and some of his close friends. Mmm, chocolate cake and lamb. We watched Singapore Idol after that, as well as the Community Shield match, and stayed over after it all.

We then met up with Ray, Kailing and Regina for KTV on Monday morning at Woodlands. I can't sing for nuts, but croaked along to a few songs nonetheless. Photos are up on facebook, save for some unglam shots were I was caught having fallen asleep =p

Lessons proper started on Tuesday the 11th! More on that next time (:
