My sister came back from her one semester of studies in Canada. It definitely seems like it was a great experience for her, and I can see some changes in her in that she's become more independent. She even offered to make breakfast =p
In any case, I won't go into details about her trip (it's her trip after all, not mine), but I received a pair of shades (nice) and a turtle key chain as well (awesome). The turtle comes dressed in a hawaiian style T-shirt, and just looks so ridiculously goofy with it. Now I've got a soft spot for goofy looking stuff, so that's a award-winning present in my opinion. Picture soon I hope, if I ever shrug off my laziness to do such things =p So anyway I went back to doing a few quizzes on Facebook, and while I'm not that interested to know that I have good grammar, this quiz about the type of person I am in my circle of friends did pique my interest. While there are many quizzes out there which kinda fail, and this one doesn't seem like the best designed quiz, the questions were decent enough and the options were not too obvious. Results? You are the underappreciated best friend. You try to keep everyone happy, and sometimes at your expense. You foot the bill when you're all out to celebrate, just so everyone can have a good time and not worry about money. You'd do anything for your friends, even though they forget to thank you or don't show you the appreciation you deserve. Although it's nice that you're being everyone's rainbow, think about yourself, too. No one will think you're a bad friend if you say no to some of their requests. I tend to agree, except that I don't foot the bill as often as this suggests, and besides when I do people pay me back anyway. But that's beside the point. I definitely enjoy being around with my friends, going on outings, and catching up with people I don't see often. But every now and then, when the events and outings come thick and fast, I kind of feel overwhelmed. It's okay when everything pans out nicely, but often attending an outing means that I would have to sacrifice my time with another person, or another group of friends. For outings with people whom I rarely see, they are important too, but which factor lends greater weight? Should I meet them because I rarely see them? Or should I meet friends whom I might be closer with, but also see more often? It's a fine balance. On other occasions, the timings of each outing don't clash, but because they are consecutive, it's energy-sapping and I feel I'm letting down people if I turn up feeling tired and am unable to put in effort to interact with others. In the end I just feel guilty for everything, and end up being jaded myself. Obviously it's no one's fault, but I think I need to make better plans for myself from now on to be fair to all, including myself. Then again, perhaps after I end work, and my tuition student is handed back to my sister, things will get better. Looking forward to a fresher me (:
