Looks like I've neglected my blog again ;o
Went to the Bird Park on Sat, 13 June. It was World Blood Donors' Day, and basically we've got complimentary tickets. Yeah, pretty awesome, I know ;o Anyway, I've been to the Bird Park only once before, and I am quite sure that was over a decade ago. Needless to say, I don't remember any bit of the trip aside from the waterfall and faint memories of penguins waddling about, so this trip was made all the more fun. We attended the first bird show of the day, a Birds of Prey show called Fuji World of Hawks, at 10 in the morning. Apparently, regardless of age, you'll be fascinated anyway as the birds of prey swooped over the audience, flying from one end of the amphitheatre to the other. Aside from that, the various birds of prey performed tricks like snatching pieces of meat off a pair of chopsticks held by a volunteer, threw stones with their beaks to try to break eggs, or diving down to grab prey like... a ridiculously cute fake rabbit. Bunny ^_^ After that first show, we went around viewing each location in the park, starting with Penguin Expedition. The scene was the same as how I've remembered it. Poor penguins looked bored just waddling around. On the other hand, they do look like they're having fun when they flip into the waters to swim around. Next up were the flamingoes, which reminded me of Wii Fit's Yoga training session, specifically the one-leg balancing posture which Ashvin performed horribly at. We continued to stroll along, but it's gonna be tough describing everything, so I'll just put up a few photos. And they're all paired up in the exhibit. That's ridiculously cute ^_^ or why it was in the Scarlet Ibis' enclosure. with this... erm, unknown yellow bird. We returned to the amphitheatre for the last bird show of the day, another birds of prey show, but a different one. This one was called the Kings of the Skies. It does sound more majestic than Fuji World of Hawks, but perhaps there wasn't much of the element of surprise left - this show felt a little boring compared to the morning's. The birds still swooped from end to end, but it was like "yeah, whatever dude, your friend did that this morning already! Ooooold." The performances were new, but most weren't too interesting aside from the one segment where six... er, birds of prey whose names I do not recall, tried to steal a piece of meat from a plate held by the Falconer, who had to dodge the birds, prompted only by the crowd's screaming whenever one of the birds swooped down towards the piece of meat. We went home to shower before going to dinner at Irish Pub at Marina Square. The pub was strangely quiet. No idea whether it's because the place sucks, there was no football, or the economy was worse than I thought. There was football showing though, just not the type with the round ball we call soccer. Dinner was great though, and I don't think the economy is that bad yet, if you had a chance to see the crowds at the PC Show. So I guess the main reason why the place was fairly empty was the lack of soccer matches showing =p
