Last Friday was my last day at work. It's really cliched, but time really flies. It doesn't feel like it was six months ago when I first stepped foot into the Pharmacy. It was December 09 then, and Friday was June 19, so that's six months and ten days of (:
I guess this is pretty much a really ideal (part-time) job. After a week of self-imposed lazing post-ORD, I began my job search. The pay had to be decent of course, the location shouldn't be too far away, I didn't want to work on weekends, and preferably the job had to be useful towards my future. Several jobs offering clerical work (Note to anyone as geeky as or more geeky than me: this refers to administrative work to do with being a clerk, not a character who can probably cast Heal, Revive and spells like that) came up, but I turned them down due to various combinations of the above-mentioned criteria. I also turned down Recruit Express's attempts to recruit (no pun intended) me to join them. It was therefore quite a pleasant surprise when AH's Chief Pharmacist, aka my current, or rather ex-boss, contacted me. I dithered a little due to the location being a little unfavourable, but accepted in the end because it felt like a really good opportunity. I must say I look back at that decision with zero regret. Work was never dull, since Gerry was willing to attach me to various parts within the department, never mind that I wasn't getting work done. It was, in her words, her investment in the profession, to get me to learn more about the work which pharmacists do. I started off helping to manage the stock inventory, culminating in January's stock take. After that, I got a short stint at the inpatient pharmacies, before being attached to the outpatient pharmacy full-time for a period of about a month in order to make up for the shortage of manpower. It was then that I really interacted with Yu Heng (the other temp) for the first time, and while I still think he is too calculative (money-wise) he's really a great friend who's fun to be around =p Anyway, after that "stay" at the OP we finally commenced on our projects, mainly assisting in data entry for the pharmacists. Projects incldued various drug use evaluations, review of our services. I liked the freedom we had, and when I got tired of the computer I'd take a short break by helping to pack or top up the medications. As such I can take justifiable breaks without appearing to slack. Every now and then, we would get our chance to sit in at Pharmacist-run clinics, such as the anticoagulation clinic. They were certainly interesting experiences, as I had not known of such Pharmacist-run clinics before. So much for trying to summarise my work done in six months. Fast forwarding to last Friday, they presented me with a Liverpool jersey during roll call in the morning. I was pretty touched =p Went for steamboat dinner with Wilson, Ray, Kailing and Sophia at Bugis after that, to somewhat commemorate my last day of work. I can't remember exactly how and when I started to gel with these people, but thanks to them my work was never dull, since they always inject varying degrees of fun and laughted in their own unique ways. I guess this friendship is an intangible gift that I can take back with me from my last day, in addition to tangible gifts like the jersey (:
