Finally got my computer back from repair yesterday night. Yeah, it was actually sent for repair, specifically, on Sunday morning. It used to freeze and restart itself intermittently before, but on Saturday it couldn't even boot properly before shutting down by itself. While it is good news that it's now in working order, it comes with the bad news that it doesn't have long to live anyway. Apparently the capacitors or whatever those silvery, metallic things inside the CPU are all oxidised and corroded, much like batteries that have starting leaking after being kept for too long. While I had always thought that my computer was rather outdated, having bought it all the way back in 2003, it's still kinda disappointing to hear that the feisty machine's got not much fight left in it. Oh well.
And now I shall go back to recounting (belatedly) the events of the past few days! Played two sessions of soccer in a single day for the first time (I think) on Saturday. First was street soccer with the scouts, with Zuo Yi making a very rare, if not unique appearance. I think the last time I actually played soccer with him was back before I had even enlisted! Second was another field soccer game, this time against the same opponents we faced two weeks ago - the opponents whom we beat only narrowly, with a scoreline of 4-3. This time, the match felt much more intense, with our side eager to prove that our victory previously wasn't just a fluke, while our opponents were eager for "revenge". We quickly established a healthy lead, to lead with a score of 4-1 (I think... it's hard to keep track of the score while you're playing). Unfortunately, our defense once again got compromised and we let in a couple in quick succession. It was a slightly nervous finish, but thankfully we scored enough and eventually won with a 6-4 scoreline. In any case, I managed to score a goal. A run took me close to goal, but the goalkeeper was prepared to make a save while their right back was keeping close attention to me, and therefore there wasn't an opportunity to shoot. With no time to find someone to pass to, I dragged the ball back several metres, made a turn, and suddenly saw a gap. Trying my luck, I took a right footed shot, which flew up towards the top left hand side of goal, evading the right back and beyond the reach of the goalkeeper (:
Went to watch Star Trek at E!Hub at Pasir Ris on Sunday. I know very little about Star Trek. It just seems like the poorer cousin of the more popular Star Wars franchise. This allowed me to go in with a clean slate of mind, and therefore I did not have any expectations that I wanted the movie to fulfill. Perhaps that contributed to me enjoying the movie more. That being said, while the movie was certainly nice, it was somewhat predictable and the action scenes were much less epic than what I've imagined them to be based on trailers and in comparison to other similar films. All in all it was an entertaining show, but nothing was particularly memorable about the movie.
