10 days. When I don't update after 7 days, I'm pretty much really busy =p

Went on a trip to Malaysia trip to Pengarang, Desaru, with my Pharmacy colleagues last Sunday. It was a full-day affair, and we set off really early in the morning. The bus picked us up from Kranji at 7 in the morning, and after we arrived at JB our first stop was to a small coffee shop for breakfast. We had wanton mee and some dim sum, which was quite a lot for breakfast actually. The next destination was an Ostrich Farm. I'm not sure if the farm actually does have a proper name, but then again all the banner says is "Welcome to Ostrich Farm", so let's just call it Ostrich Farm. Not the Ostrich Farm. Just Ostrich Farm.

So anyway we got to view a nice demonstration with an ostrich egg. They literally had to use a drill to get through the shell of the egg, before widening the whole with a small grinder. The egg also contained an incredible amount of egg white, with a humongous yolk. Though that was to be expected it's still somewhat surprising to see all that egg flow out. We got some free time to tour around after that, and took quite a few photos as well. Many of us took photos standing on the ostrich eggs, and I thought it's rather sad for the ostriches for us to do so this near to them. I mean, imagine if some ostrich steps on your kids and poses for photographs while you are watching. That lasted a while, and, avoiding the ostriches which were peeing indiscriminately we settled down to have a bowl of ostrich mean soup as well as some ostrich satay.

Next stop was lunch. The food should have been sumptuous, with crabs, lobsters, and various other types of seafood, but somehow we didn't really feel really satisfied by the meal. After lunch was a trip to a fruit farm. It was nice tasting all the jambu and passionfruit and whatnot, the scenery wasn't bad, and the fruits seen were interesting. However, that's about how exciting plants can get, so I didn't find the fruit farm visit particularly thrilling. Towards the end of our tour there however we did get to see a few farm animals being reared there, most notably the tortoises stacked on top of each other, the tortoises hiding in the shade and... well okay I admit I like tortoises best. But there were also bunnies (^_^) and curious goats, chicks and ducklings, and a moody monkey, just to mention a few (:

Next destination was to Tebrau City Shopping Centre. It didn't sound very big when the tour guide described it to us, and she did say it only has three floors. But the mall was sprawled across a large span of area, which means that each floor in itself already covered a large amount of space. Since I haven't spent ringgit all day I decided to splurge a little and bought two tees. The mall was certainly going to be fun to shop at, but then we had very limited time there. And therein lies my biggest complaint about the itinery: why do we spend two hours at a fruit farm, but only one hour at a big shopping complex? There was barely any time to browse through each shop, and after I was done getting my tees the only other shop we went in to and browsed through their products was Watson's.

Finally, our last destination before returning to Singapore was some Pekin Restaurant. The dishes were simpler compared to our lunch menu, since items like crab and lobster weren't present. But the food was good, especially the pig's trotters, and this time we left feeling well fed and happy.

Pictures to come later, by the way.

I actually wanted to blog about the past week, but I guess I'll leave it to tomorrow then. Spent a little more time than expected talking about the Malaysia trip =p
