Friday was my NUS Medical Examination, and I went for it with Weiquan and William, the only two who were motivated enough to make a booking despite William's and my efforts in getting everyone to be able to go down together. Everyone among us going to NUS, that is.

It wasn't very thorough, but then again I'm making this statement based on my comparison with the pre-enlistment checkup, and, come to think of it, you don't have to be that fit and healthy to study as compared to going to roughing it out in the humid jungles of Singapore. I thank my current job for enriching me to the extent that I actually am able to explain the extent of seriousness of my minor mitral valve regurgitation to the Doctor whom I was seeing. Basically, no problem thus far, but it is to be noted that I require antibiotic prophylaxis prior to any surgical or dental procedure =p

We went to play LAN after our medical examination, and we tried out Left 4 Dead, a (okay I think I'm gonna start another geek talk session again, so some of you might want to skip the paragraph haha) First Person Shooter (FPS) with a lot more emphasis on teamwork than other FPSes. The campaign puts you in a scenario straight out of a zombie flick (30 Days of Night? 28 Days Later?), as part of a team of up to 4 people who have survived an infection which has turned every other living person into rabid, zombie-like beings. The aim of each campaign is to navigate your way past hordes of enemies in both urban and rural settings to make it to an spot where evacuation awaits, such as the top of a building in town. The emphasis on teamwork is what makes the game refreshing and different from other FPSes. The enemies often outnumber your team greatly, and you routinely have to pick off enemies ambushing your allies from behind, revive dying teammates, render first aid to injured teammates, and defend locations together. There is something intensely gratifying about gunning down zombies with a huge machine gun with unlimited ammo while your team mates crowd around behind you, covering your back and gunning down those who evade your field of vision =p

Moving on to less geeky topics, I had dinner at West Mall later in the evening. And speaking of dinner, yesterday's was awesome. We went to Cathay's Aston's, which was basically the only place at Cathay besides the Cinema and probably Ben and Jerry's which was capable of drawing a crowd. And crowded it was, with us having to queue for nearly 45 minutes to get our seats. I had my fears that the queue would extend around the entire floor and down the escalator =p

We didn't take any pictures, but I did manage to leech one off Google Image Search, so here goes:

Believe me, it's more awesome than it looks. And the prices are awesome too. It's restaurant food at prices that are nearer to food court prices, so for anyone who hasn't been to Aston's... wait, scrap that, the queues are bad enough even without me promoting the place ;o
