Fell in love with Unagi on Friday ;o
Anyway, played field soccer with Weiquan and co on Saturday morning. It was the first time I've played field soccer since that fateful match against the regulars back when we were first posted to 30 SCE. It was also the debut of my new pair of soccer boots, as well as my soccer socks, bought in 2003 if I remember correctly. Our opponents looked strong. They even have a team kit, while all our team had was an agreement to wear white. We didn't even know one another yet, much less played together. In any case, we just went for it as usual, and we did start off quite well, stringing together some nice passes. Then suddenly, we managed to score 4 in quick succession, and despite our opponents nicking one goal back to get the scoreline at 4-1, we were getting our momentum going by then. Jie Sheng was rock solid in defence, while Darren was outstanding on the opposite wing (oh, I was playing on the left wing by the way). The final scoreline? 9-1 (or was it 10?). I managed to score two, though both were rather simple goals that I attribute more to luck than anything else. All in all, it was a great game, and we had great fun playing. Even the fact that one of our balls got stuck in the tree didn't dampen our mood much. Certainly not the fact that we got another ball stuck up in the tree when we tried to hit the first ball down with it. We climbed up the tree a little, and tore down a long branch, then tried to prod the balls down using the branch. However, we simply weren't tall enough. That's when they carried me on their shoulders and used the combined height to try to prod the ball... but that still wasn't enough. So we plucked out the corner flag, and shoved the branch into the hollow pole. This new combined height was sufficient, but the balls were firmly stuck, so it still took considerable effort to bring down both balls... which we did. If anyone needs to think of challenges for Survivor: Singapore or something, this is it =p Watched Gran Turino yesterday. Starring Clint Eastwood as Walt Kowalski, the film is about how Kowalski, a disgruntled and cynical war veteran whose wife has just passed away and is becoming increasing estranged from his own family, slowly finds something of value in his life. It centres around his encounter with his Asian Hmong neighbours. When the family's teenage son, Thao, tries to steal Kowalski's most prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, under the pressure of his cousin's gang, the story gets going. Kowalski slowly develops a liking for Thao and his feisty sister Sue, but he remains the same rude-mouthed grumpy old man that he is. Aside from this, the rest of the plot is somewhat predictable, but the film loses none of its charm despite the predictability. Perhaps it is Eastwoods's compelling performance that gets us to emphatise with him. In any case, while it's not that awesome a movie, it does keep things simple and heartwarming such that when the credits roll, you are left with a warm fuzzy feeling in your heart (: Had dinner with my colleagues today. Awesome seafood, but too bad several of them couldn't make it and we were left with 6 people instead of the original 11. Well, at least the majority attended =p Pictures to come later. Actually, we barely took any pictures, so I think all I'll have is one picture of all the food heh.
