Went for dinner and also to lao yu sheng with my colleagues on Thursday. I don't really lao yu sheng much, because my family members think that yu sheng is overrated and tastes far from great, which I kinda agree. The first time in eons I did it was probably in camp last year, during my unit's CNY celebrations, while we followed that up during the visit to CSM's house not long after that.

Anyway, I guess it's done more as a tradition and for good luck and not because it's tastes good. We had a nine course meal all in all and the other courses taste awesome, so no complaints about the dinner.

Pictures courtesy of Regina!

Our first dish, the yu sheng.

That's shark's fin, alright. Sorry to all the animal rights activists. I am aware of all the reasons why I shouldn't be having this dish. But. It was delicious :D

Ribs. That was when we asked for rice. At first we asked for three bowls of rice, but that's when we found out that the rice was free flow as part of the cost of the set meal. Somehow the next moment all nine of us had rice (:

Fish. I don't usually like eating fish, but my colleagues served me quite a bit of this dish. I must say though, this dish was good. The skin was really crisp and the meat was fresh. The taste was rich but not too salty.

Hungry yet? =p
This is chicken, obviously.

Mushrooms and veggies. Mmm.

I still remember my mum peeling prawns for me at wedding dinners when I was young. Sometimes I wish the prawns would auto-peel, but no matter. This dish was worth the effort spent on peeling it =p

Noodles.

Glutinous rice and ice cream! It was good, but nothing, absolutely nothing in the world can compare to the glutinous rice and ice cream we had in Thailand that costs a mere 10 baht, seems to be rather un-hygienically prepared and stored, and looks really unpalatable at first glance. It's like a character in a story who once had to beg for food but who suddenly struck it rich, and still likes eating a simple bowl of porridge over the delicacies that he can easily afford. Irreplacable, that Thailand ice cream.

And. That's us! My colleagues and I (: (:

Yesterday was a Magic the Gathering TCG release party, for the Conflux set. I'm kinda surprised that I'm still playing this trading card game, but it's a hobby which I've ditched twice and picked up again during my National Service, and I think I won't be ditching this hobby. It's actually a nice excuse reason for us to continue to meet up, it's a topic that we can talk about instead of just reminiscing about our NS experiences, and bottom line is that it's fun. I never really thought that kids should be spending too much of their pocket money on TCGs, which was why I never bought much in the past when I played, and still don't in my third go at this TCG. In fact I almost only spend money on each release party. 30 odd dollars per release, which happens once every quarter, seem pretty affordable to me. Moreover I'm not using pocket money which comes from my parents - I'm using my own income, so I guess there's less guilt involved there. Yes, it's a lot of money for what is essentially colour ink and cardboard, but like I said it's a nice pasttime that can bond us together, so why not?

In any case, I got a Mythic Rare card. I'm such a geek sometimes (:
Oh, Weiquan got two Mythic Rare, but I'm not complaining because he had horrible luck last release heh. One of them was Apocalypse Hydra, which has art that is just made of pure win.

I love art that tell a story. Soldiers from Bant are battling a gigantic hydra. A Bant knight is riding to the scene on his leotau (the lion thingy), and an angel is soaring into battle. If you look closer you see an angel also munched up by the hydra. Ouch.

Did I mention I can be pretty geeky?

Moving on, I went to Zuo Yi's house last night for our regular catch-up cum soccer session. We put our bet with Ashvin into action last night, after we postponed it from last week since I didn't stay over then. Basically Zuo Yi and I would have free pork chop rice from the Macau Cafe located a five minutes' walk away, courtesy of Ashvin, if he fell asleep (and he always does) before half time during the late, late night match. Or, technically speaking, the early morning match. We lost, but then watching Ashvin's attempts to keep awake were hilarious and worth it.
