A weekf of movies! In camp, I managed to catch Little Man at the Specialist Mess on one of the nights, Black Hawk Down which was a movie screening for the company, as well as Bourne Ultimatum on another of the nights. Apologies to Weiquan for all the spoilers regarding Black Hawk Down =p

He was sitting between Jian Wen and I, who have watched the film five times and twice respectively, and of course we had no idea Wq hasn't watched the film before. And as the film progressed we unknowingly spoiled it for him by giving healthy doses of comments such as "Isn't that the second chopper which got shot down?", "Urgh the next scene is disgusting!", and "Oh he died in the end, didn't he?".

Anyway, the company moved to Nee Soon Camp on Tuesday for Wednesday and Thursday's parade rehearsals for Friday's Engineer Formation Anniversary. However, Nicholas and I stayed behind because we were to be attached to ATEC (which I think stands for Army Test and Evaluation Command or something along the lines of that) as Auxiliary Umpires for an NS (aka reservist) unit's ATEC 1. It was an interesting experience "watching lao-jiao peng chiong" (as one of the NSmen said it, heh). Following them around for their mission on the second day brought back memories of navigation in SISPEC, as we maneuvered our way around the undulating terrain of Lim Chu Kang, bashing through thick vegetation and very unfortunately wading in shin-deep waters. Unfortunately they arrived at their objective late, so the Infantry Pioneer Platoon, which I was supposed to evaluate, had their orders canceled and were relegated to provide flank security. Which meant that I pretty much had nothing to evaluate. Oh well.

Oh did I mention Jurong Camp 2 was a nice place? The buildings reminded me more of a HDB estate rather than an army camp. The close proximity to an actual HDB estate, which can be easily seen from within the camp, also made the place feel somewhat... civilian. Which was reassuring. And last but not least the Enlistee Mess and canteen are awesome.

That aside, close to everyone in the battalion, or formation even, reported to Nee Soon Camp on Friday for the Formation Anniversary. It was nostalgic being back in Nee Soon Camp and ETI; seeing Clement and Amresh, my former instructors, now 2SGs, patronizing the canteen, visiting the familiar looking bunks, dropping by the STW office, etc etc. Even the 7-Eleven outside the camp brought back memories. It was as though I've never left the place =)

Of course we ended up having an early book out on Friday due to the event, which gave me time to round off my week of movies with What Happens in Vegas. We couldn't make up our minds on where to go, and we somehow found our way to Cathay via bus. Dinner at Billy Bomber's preceded the film. After the film, (oh, I guess we were right in staying to catch what happens after the credits roll) we somehow found our way home, yet again by bus heh. Long bus journeys had never been this enjoyable ;o
