My first week at Seletar Camp, attending the first ever Combat Engineer Construction Course. Previously, the pioneers would attend a course at Construction Industry Training Institute (CITI), which trains civilian construction workers, so to speak, whereas the commanders would go to Singapore Polytechnic for a course. Pity they decided to start with an in-camp course for our batch, if not I would be staying out-camp and enjoying two months over at SP >.>
Nonetheless, it's refreshing to get a change of environment. Too bad the bunks were in horrible condition. The building was kinda dilapidated, having not had any inhabitants for eons since it was used for NSmen (aka the new term for reservists). Some serious area cleaning later, we finally managed to make the place a little more conducive for living in for the next six weeks =p That aside, the bunks were also terribly small, more so for the bunk which we commanders found ourselves in. It was a 16-man bunk not much bigger than the size of my living room with double-deck beds and cupboards crammed together. There weren't any chairs, nor any space for chairs either, so when we had to wear our boots in the morning we often found Cheok, Jian Wen, Daniel, myself and several others crammed onto Jian Wen's bed and my bed. Shoes were everywhere since "everywhere" only constituted a small area around our beds. Like 30 SCE though, the small size contributed to the coziness of the place. We would simply scurry over adjacent beds and squeeze together to lie down on joined beds whenever possible ;p The course itself was interesting. It was like going to school, except that lessons lasted all the way from 7:30 or so in the morning to about 4 or 5 in the evening without any extended breaks, save for our lunch break. We learned things like plumbing, electrical circuits, project management, and other construction related topics. Oh, and my mum's electric iron fried the house's electrical circuits last night. My parents watched in amusement as I deftly and confidently flicked the MCCB's switches to restore the power supply. Whether it was because the task was very simple or because the course helped, I don't know =p It won't be long now The music's on loud We'll sing this song out And then we'll lie down Ill hold you close then Ill let you know when The space and time bend And then we'll fall in Go put on your best tonight It's you and me and one spotlight One more show one last time We are ready Say you will be all around me When your body sets your heart free Say you will be all around me Ill look for your eyes To keep me inside When everything dies But one last sunrise And when we stand there together not scared I'll dry your last tear And then we'll just have Go put on your best tonight It's you and me and not much time So watch the world burning bright Say you will be all around me When your body sets your heart free Say you will be all around me Say you'll get me before the ending Take my body set my heart free Say you'll get me before the ending Go put on your best tonight It's you and me and one spotlight One more show one last time It won't be long now Say you will be all around me When your body sets your heart free Say you will be all around me Say you'll get me before the ending Take my body set my heart free Say you'll get me before the ending Say you will be (you won't be long) All around me (you won't be long now)
