Finally, the end of a looong long week. Sunday's guard duty was boring as usual, but once we got back to business on Monday morning things got hectic again as we continued our never-ending preparation for standby, which we eventually completed (or rather, prepared sufficiently but preparations were still incomplete) by Tuesday, which was the day of our first activation. It was kinda funny how we all were incredibly restless as 2pm approached, which was the timing we were expecting to get activated. Some of us started to don our SBO or even our FBO, but as 2pm came and went, we slowly relaxed and sat down to wait patiently. The siren eventually sounded at 3pm, and it seemed we were ready, for we managed to dash down to the parade square to fall in within 2 or 3 minutes, which meant that there was little danger of exceeding the 7-minute reaction time.
Maps were scrutinised, stores were unloaded, equipment were inspected and nearly dunked into the vat of water to check for waterproofing... and that took up several hours in itself, during which some of us were grilled (aka questioned) regarding engineer knowledge and what not. Anyway, that turned out to be the only activation of the week, thanks in no small part to the fact that we had to prepare for the Division Commander's Change of Command Parade. When we weren't practising our drill, we had quite a bit of free time, so we ended up playing Risk, fighting the desire to sleep, playing games on William's PSP and my DS, reading the papers, fighting the desire to sleep, trying to play a low intensity game of sepak takraw in the bunk, chatting with the men, watching the men play carom, and fighting the desire to sleep. Mmmm. Thankfully there's daily battalion PT, if not we might just grow fat from the inactivity ;o *prays that there's no activation this week* I think I'm suffering from the same problem as Kiat Tat. While I still very much look forward to weekends and time away from camp, perhaps more so than ever, they don't really rejuvenate me that much anymore. By the way, I just turned into a second-year soldier on Friday, having enlisted exactly a year ago. Maybe this jaded-ness has got to do with that. Oh well. Ten more months to go =)
