For several years Ashvin has been speaking of treating us to a sumptuous Indian dinner to celebrate Deepavali, but it has never happened. Thus Jy, Zy and I were pleasantly surprised last Saturday, for Ash had finally fulfilled his promise =p

After meeting up, we settled down at a random restaurant (well, they all look the same =/) and ordered some Indian cuisine, most dishes of which had names no one but Ashvin and the waiter recognised. Asking the waiter to repeat our order was also futile for he spoke at the speed of light. In any case, when the food came, it looked and tasted pretty good; the four of us shared dishes of tandoori chicken, briyani sets and poppadoum crackers. Mmmm.

After the meal we strolled down Race Course Road and along the streets of Little India, gawked at super cheap merchandise laughed at super chui merchandise, and eventually ended up at Mustaffa Centre, which was pretty much taking up an entire street by itself. The claustrophbic interior kinda reminded us of Korean shopping complexes, and I was finding it hard to navigate with my large book-in bag (yeah, guard duty on Sunday, darn). By the time we emerged from the place, Zuo Yi and Ash had each bought a trendy (controversial?) Indian shirt heh. I also grabbed something, but it was merely a damn cheapo-looking miniature bed light costing a mere $1.50 which I thought would be useful in my bunk.

Life in camp this week was kinda tedious, no thanks to the huge number of duties that we had to do now that the Charlie guys are at Crescendo in Thailand and the ORD personnel are clearing leave/off. Sunday guard duty was followed by morning DS duty on Tuesday before COS duty, also on Tuesday. Weiquan also had a tough week, with Wednesday guard duty and another one n Saturday. Thankfully, Jian Wen's timely book-in saved us as he undertook DS duty on Wednesday and Thursday.

And that marks the end of yet another week . Time flies. Seeing recruits in their smart 4, jockey caps and field packs going to Pasir Ris to book in reminds me of what I had to go through a mere 10 months ago. Seeing SISPEC trainees and their distinct SISPEC-ish hairstyle makes me reminisce about my time in SISPEC. Seeing 'A' level students complete their exams brings back the memories of my days spent mugging and days spent hanging out with the S25 people after the papers. I still recall the fears of enlistment as well heh.

Yet as time flies, it seems to crawl simultaneously. There's still three more weeks of intensive outfield exercises - all three are dreaded deployment exercises (which includes the even more dreaded digging of shellscrapes) and two are coupled with hasty defence and obstacle clearing. I won't deny that I'm feeling nervous about the exercises, having not lived up to my own and probably my peers' and superiors' expectations so far at 30 SCE yet. Hopefully these three weeks would go by quickly and the three exercises would be successful ones =/
