Musang's over, and next week is Transformer. 3SG Timothy says I might be the PS again, this time for deployment. Once again...
SHIT. Thursday was our nation's birthday, and to celebrate this occasion we had to reach Marina Bay by 7am to set up all the barricades in the area =/ Good thing was, we were done by mid-morning, and were free to roam about Marina Square for a while. I had to return by 1:45pm, and thereafter I was deployed with Zu Hao and several pioneers by a sergeant who happened to be an Anglican High alumnus too. We basically ushered the early (kiasu?) birds towards their respective colour-sectors at 2, and our duty lasted all the way to 7pm, when some stragglers who pretty much didn't care about the pre-parade performances were still strolling in. Went for a break, before resuming duty at close to 8, when the people who couldn't care less about the finale and fireworks, aka those who only turn up for the fun-packs, started to leave. Or perhaps I thought wrong, and they merely wanted to avoid the hassle of being stuck in a human jam. The fireworks were pretty awesome, but once again I thought the smoke obscured the fireworks a little, and also made capturing the fireworks on camera a failure. I couldn't see the whole thing clearly though, being deployed at the Esplanade traffic junction where the Esplanade itself and the trees along the pavement blocked out everything. Dispersal was a nightmare. The people who have gathered outside of the place (you know, those without tickets) kinda slowed things down. Still, everything went rather smoothly, with several Officers and civilians thanking Zu Hao and I as we greeted them when they passed by us. Yet one policeman somewhat wrecked it all when he dismantled the plastic netting tied to several barriers, thus allowing people from the Esplanade area out onto the street. But being the "responsible" guy that he is, no policemen were deployed to man that area after the plastic netting was removed. And being the "smart" guy that he is, he did not realise that while his action let people out, it also let people in. The lane inside was already very narrow, and chaos reigned as people squeezed past each other in their bid to get to their destinations. Stuck in the eye of the storm was none other than yours truly, who got seriously ****ed by the civilians while trying to establish order. Some ah bengs used some colourful language as adjectives for the noun "Corporal", while other adjectives included "stupid", "silly" and "senseless". In addition, the plastic netting left on the floor caused one or two people to fall, and whose fault was it? Not the people themselves who blatantly ignored the barrier erected there, not the policeman who removed the plastic netting, but yours truly, simply because they needed to transmit their rage and frustration somewhere, and I was the only target available. These black sheep are so disappointing. Nonetheless, thanks to those Singaporeans who thanked us, or were grateful for our efforts spent in making this year's NDP a memorable and enjoyable affair for everyone. Happy (belated) National Day! ----- To a certain someone, whom I'm not even sure reads my blog. Here's hoping whatever's troubling you will be resolved soon. Looking forward to the day when you're all happy and jovial once more.
