Protect. Destroy.

Watched Transformers with Zuo Yi yesterday. Must say I'm thoroughly impressed, though I'm not exactly the pickiest of movie-goers. While I did watch the cartoon as a kid, I don't really remember anything beyond Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Anyway, since I kinda like science fiction and the like, the movie appealed greatly to me. Robots? Check. High-tech futuristic warfare? Check. The movie was every bit a fanboy's dream come true. The effects were fantastic for a movie with a limited budget (only in comparison to other movies, of course), and the transformations were smooth and eye-catching. Battle sequences were reminiscent of mechwarrior games, and I was glad the action could be seen clearly (aka it didn't degrade into a mess of metal and flames, like in many action movies).

The music was pretty good. Some of the pop tunes were a little inappropriate, but Linkin Park's What I've Done fit in pretty well, or maybe it's because I like the song anyway. In other scenes, the music sounds epic, which I guess is fitting for a battle to save Earth =p

Too bad there wasn't enough character development for the giant hulks of metal. However, it's understandable. Some films fail to develop their characters at all, much less Transformers, which has to develop both the human and robotic characters. In any case, there were a couple of slightly emotional scenes, which I won't spoil for you, but apparently Bumblebee is tougher than he looks ;o

All in all, Transformers was great, though I'm not a qualified reviewer =)

Booking in tonight for the start of my specialised training as a Combat Engineer Specialist. If I'm not wrong it starts off with the super-dreaded chemical defence package. *shudders*
