7 theory and 1 practical tests later, we're done with the final week of the Combat Engineer Specialist Course's Basic Phase. We had the beret presentation ceremony on Friday morning, where we were presented with our blue berets, the blue colour signifying that we belonged to a support arm of the Singapore Armed Forces.

That afternoon, we had our cohesion games, where we narrowly lost out on the first two competitions, the balloon-game-with-no-name and the tentage competition. We did have fun cheering on our platoon and poking fun at Staff Edwin's platoon 1 and Warrant Jack's Platoon 3, however. The third game was street soccer, which I participated in. However, due to the fact that 14 people were squeezed into a really small space with little room for manoeuvre, plus the fact that each half lasts for a mere 5 minutes, we really couldn't come up with any telling contribution. All I did was to come up with a few tackles here and there, and my only meaningful contribution was to dribble past one or two defenders to shoot tamely at goal. Platoon 2 (sadly) lost that as well.

In the evening, we had a buffet dinner and a WOSPEC interaction session at the mess. For once in the course, we were able to relax and enjoy the mess to the max. Foosball (however you spell the name for table soccer, that is), pool, TV complemented the spread of food. Plus, beer at a mere $1.20 per can. For me, I followed the geeky dudes and picked up a TIME magazine to read. I felt like I was in the eye of a storm, sitting down quietly to read while sipping beer, whereas chaos raged all around me =p

Everyone got all high, some due to the influence of alcohol. Gareth and Christopher staggered to join us when we had to fall in to return to the company line after the event. Chris blur-ly called Staff Loo Sergeant and was duly awarded with 20 pushups, which he struggled to complete due to his alcohol-induced nausea. It didn't help that we made vomiting sounds as he did his pushups heh. Later in the night, chaos reigned once more as people ran around the bunks, giving taupoks and wedgies, stripping the birthday boy, and spraying shaving cream. Platoon 1 tried to attack my section, but the 6 of us held on to the door and pushed, like how the spartans held their ground in the movie 300. The later part of the night was spent cleaning up the mess, particularly the shaving cream on the walls ;o

And today, we got our posting results. Six lucky souls were chosen to be Engineer Plants, while others were sorted our into Bridging, EOD, CBRE, AP and ME. Myself? I'm gonna be a field engineer, which was what I expected anyway.

We were also told of our upcoming commitments for NDP 2007, and were informed that our saturdays will all be burned from July onwards. For my platoon, we're in charge of liaising with primary schools to bring primary 5 students to the NDP rehearsals. Heh, if I can't have my saturdays, at least I'll be doing something fun =)

Combat Engineers of the SAF, a force to reckon with, support role that we play.
Training as one for the SAF, striving for the best for our dear motherland.
We do the work, you cannot do without. We do the work, you cannot but be proud.
Oh, Combat Engineers of the SAF, a force to reckon with, in the defence of our land.

We the blue berets of the SAF, a force at the frontline, a force that fortifies.
Where upon we stand, unwavered by no man. That's the way to defend, to success.
We do the work, you cannot do without. We do the work, you cannot but be proud.
Oh Combat Engineers of the SAF, a force to reckon with, in the defence of our land.
