And so I return from my two week (plus 2 days) stay at this sunny and tropical island resort known as Pulau Tekong Basic Military Training Center School 2. It wasn't too tough, but it wasn't slack either. We can expect things to get much worse in the weeks to come though, especially since the field camp draws near T_T

An overview of the past two weeks, (somewhat in chronological order) which seemed like two months to me.
  • No more walking! Marching from place to place, singing army songs along the way. Whenever we're not marching, we're either running or sprinting
  • Super appetites due to super big portions of the food given to each soldier, and training which makes one hungry. For instance, breakfast a few days ago was six slices of bread with baked beans and egg
  • Accidentally squeezing out too much shampoo when bathing the first night, only to remember that there is little to wash
  • New "vocabulary"
  • Physical Training T_T oh well at least I feel fitter now
  • All sorts of military training. Shan't divulge too much info in case I say things which I shouldn't
  • Hearing ghost stories from my PC
  • Going to toilet at 0430 every morning without fail to empty my bladder of the water from the previous night's water parade
  • Fun with PSP! Not that Playstation Portable, but Platoon Sergeant Poh ;o
  • The dreaded area cleaning sessions. Hard-to-scrub staircase landings and steps, dirty toilets, sea breeze blowing all sorts of rubbish in...
  • Accumulating blisters and injuries and aches and whatnot
  • Watching a measly thirty minutes of the Singapore-Malaysia match during our one and only canteen break
  • Meeting my "wife" and learning how to "strip" her/it and "assemble" her/it. Safeguarding your "wife" from anything and everything. I even have to bring my "wife" together with me when I go to the toilet
  • Missing friends and family
... and so much more. Finally, on Friday night, it was Book Out Day. Unfortunately the company couldn't maintain discipline and march properly so I think some other company took our fastcraft. On the way back to Pasir Ris on the bus, the platoon went sort of delirious in our homesickness. We sang, cursed, and marvelled at stupid things ("wow, people travel in cars now!" and "oh look technology is so advanced now... they invented traffic lights"). And finally I got home, changed, and ate a nice meal of Mac =O

Yesterday, went to Beach Road with Jun Wei and Meng Hwee (later we were joined by Wei Peng) so we could stock up on some equipment which we needed to buy. The place was swarming with recruits, some of which were still in uniform =p

In the evening, I went for our "class outing", where there were only 7 people. Still, it was pretty enjoyable. Pity I had to eat Kenny Rogers... I thought I could get to eat something else other than chicken, chicken and chicken, which is seemingly the only form of meat the army food caterers can get their hands on. After eating we went to the beach and then McCafe to chit chat, about army ghost stories (somehow even the girls knew as many as I did), their jobs (stop complaining about having low pay; I get the worst pay =p), and all sorts of things. After two weeks of a regimental lifestyle it felt really great to be able to chill out with friends =)

Anyway, next saturday I'll most probably book out after lunch, and go back in on Sunday evening. The following weekend is a confinement period again, as it is just before Field Camp =(

Booking in tonight. Cya all in one week!
