Ah, it's the March holidays. What better way to start it than having to go for Job Week? Gee, this is my *raises up hand and counts fingers* 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... ooh, my sixth Job Week. Thankfully, our quota this year was a mere 50 dollars. On Saturday, we met up at Noga's house at about 9am, but once again HK was late (just like previous years lol) so we started without him. The first door I knocked on, I got the dreaded old-man-alone-in-the-house scenario, aka the scenario where you either get the door slammed in your face, or you get a rude "dowan dowan". Turned out the old man in this house was unlike the rest, and I got a morale-boosting 10 bucks. It wasn't so smooth-sailing after that though. An entire section of a block could yield about 2 dollars at times. Must be the effects of the NKF saga that makes people so suspicious about such things. It was a relatively uneventful day until I got to this house where *gasp* another old (actually he wasn't that old, but I guess he didn't care about dyeing his hair black) man lived. He was actually the owner of a website "selling stuff online". He told me he paid a programmer 900 dollars to design the website for him, and all he had to do was to upload info via FTP. Hmmm. Luckily I knew what FTP was so I could nod in agreement. Anyway, he got me to take a look at his computer, and from the looks of it the computer doesn't seem to be much younger than he is. His mouse was giving him problems, and I obviously had no idea how to fix it; all I know was that it was a hardware error. I got him to change to another mouse. Or rather, I told him what he should do, and I did it for him. Changed his mouse, installed the driver for it, did some virus definition update for him, ran a virus scan... Eventually he paid me 8 dollars for my "services". I was thinking he paid a programmer 900 dollars for his website, and I get 8 dollars for spending about an hour fixing his faulty mouse and updating his virus protection. Meh, not fair. The fact that Noga earned 20 dollars from sweeping the floor rubbed salt into my wounds. Despite that, we all reached our quota rather quickly. I think we took about 2 and a half hours to 3 hours. So much for Job Week... on to more interesting stuff, it was our annual class bbq at HY's place! Same place, same time of the year, same bbq pit, and almost the same faces. Played pool (at which I fail, I think) in the afternoon, before buying food (chilli padi is NOT suitable for a bbq, Zirui and Eun) at NTUC and dragging bags and bags of food to HY's house. Initially our plan was to slack around a bit before starting, but we spent longer than expected at NTUC, so we abolished that plan and got to preparing the fire. Yao Min and I scavenged for suitably sized pieces (and by that I mean pieces that were large enough) of charcoal, but NTUC cheated our money as the charcoal pieces in the bag were rarely bigger than the stones in my terrapin's container. Somehow we managed to get a fire going, but soon enough we realised that NTUC cheated more of our money, because the charcoal didn't turn white completely. Some charcoal turned brownish and yellowish. I suspect the charcoal was actually rotting wood painted black. Still, the fire kept going, and once it was up we abandoned it for a game of soccer with some kids at this tiny field outside the condo. CK was awesome, save for his flip-flaps that failed miserably. WY was doing some fine work in front of goal... well, sort of. He keeps forgetting to guard the far post. By the time we got back to the bbq, most of the class was already there, including Mrs Chua. The rest of the evening was spent on eating, slacking, Jay Chou/Green Day/Road of Major sing-along sessions, and assorted lame games. Your typical bbq scene. What better to describe the scene that with pics? =P ![]() *drools* ![]() CK is 17 going on 10 ![]() We devour a slice of watermelon ![]() The boys. ![]() ...and the girls. ![]() Anyway, who decided to take a picture of the back of my jersey? =O Oh, and I was right; it takes about half an hour to walk back from HY's place =P Quote of the day
